Cement plays an important role in world because it has its domestic merits. The Lime saturation factor (L.S.F) denotes the maximum proportion of lime which can be made to combine with other acidic oxides during burning process. L.S.F is used to desire the quality of the cement.

The per centage of free lime increases compressive strength of all ages decreases due to fact that the entire lime is not properly observed in the compound formation. Progressively when cement has a low free lime content in it has a very high strength in all ages due to the better burning and absorption of the available lime in the compound formation. Hence a minimum per centage of free lime gives higher strength components.

The cement contain the lower lime tend to give more C2S as dicalcium silicate component where as per centage of free lime increases, the cement gives higher C3S provided the clinker is well burnt. At the same time the strength of the cement is also good.

The lime content in the clinker increases; there is a general tendency that the per centage of free lime also increases. However when the clinker is proberly burnt, it will minmize the free lime content. The higher lime beyond the optimum level is not advisable for ordinary Portland cement.

The quality of the cement increases when the L.S.F value lies in between 0.62 to 1.02. Below 0.66 L.S.F value, there is no cement formation character, or that property similar with lime. The composition like SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, and SO3 desires the clinker compound formation and L.S.F value.
